Rosacea and Couperose Los Angeles

Rosacea is an inflammatory condition characterized by episodic flushing of the facial skin, often lasting for several hours. Although people of any age may develop rosacea, there are two peak incidences of the condition, one in the 20s and one in the 50s. If left untreated, rosacea tends to worsen over time. As the condition progresses, the redness becomes more persistent, and may result in bumps, pimples and visible dilated blood vessels. It is well known that rosacea is worsened with sunlight and certain foods.

Although rosacea is a chronic condition and cannot be “cured” with any laser or light, nevertheless, its appearance can be significantly improved with IPL phototherapy. At Nu Vela, Dr. Raffi Dishakjian, the cosmetic surgeon of the medical spa uses the Sciton’s BBL™ (420 nm to 1400 nm) IPL system to treat the condition. This IPL machine is equipped with a very efficient cooling system for maximum skin protection while targeting colored skin imperfections.

ROSACEA IPL TREATMENT – BEFORE AND AFTER

Couperose, also called telangiectasis, erythrosis is mostly prevalent in Caucasian and lightly pigmented skins. The condition is characterized by the visible presence of capillaries, bright red in color, winding delicately through the tissues around the nose, on the chin and the cheeks. Frequently, diffuse redness precedes the appearance of couperose and gives a constant flushed appearance to the cheeks and nose. Genetic disposition, UV exposure, and temperature extremes are believed to be the most prevalent causes for the appearance of couprose. Generally, there is not an increase in skin temperature with couperose and there are no alterations in the tissue structure or biochemistry as seen in other disorders like rosacea.

Like for rosacea, Dr. dishakjian uses Sciton’s BBL™ IPL system to treat couprose. In fact, the broad range of wavelengths and smart filters of this machine allow targeted treatment for many skin conditions, including cherry angiomas, telangiectasias, rosacea, couprose, and deeper lesions.
